Free Solo gets Oscar Nomination
Congratulations to all those involved in this groundbreaking film chronicling climber Alex Honnold's free solo ascent of Yosemite's El Capitan! When I accepted an internship position at Little Monster Films for the spring of 2017, I knew I would be working with some very talented, up and coming film makers in the documentary community. However, never did I expect to be lucky enough to work on Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi’s first Oscar nominated collaboration. In the production office, I was always treated with great professionalism and respect, challenged with tasks that were above my knowledge base at the time, and trusted with valuable information about upcoming shoots and other projects. I will forever be grateful for the connections I made there and the skills I acquired.
A few months ago, I saw Free Solo in theaters with my fellow former intern Beth Derouin. To read more about that experience, check out my previous post titled "Free Solo - Opening Weekend" (https://www.aliciahartz.com/news/free-solo-opening-weekend). A final congratulations to all those involved as well as the fellow nominees. It's been a great year for documentaries and I cannot wait to see who takes home the prize for Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Academy Awards on February 24th!
